Seven

Since I have been at school, the way I get my news has been a lot different than from when I was at home. At home, my family got the newspaper, which I would usually look at in the morning while I ate breakfast, if I had time. I didn’t really read it that intensely, but I usually got the major headlines. I also watched television more at home than I do here and a lot of times I would watch the news with my parents when they watched it. My parents themselves were also good sources of what was going on because they were more aware of current events than I was. School and teachers were also good sources of current events and the news and they still are here. Current events and news come up a lot in school because they often relate to what is being taught in class. Since being at school though I get my news more often from the Internet than I did at home. Since I don’t get a newspaper, I go to newspapers online more than I ever have. The less time I spend watching television has also increased my dependence on the Internet for news. It is especially convenient because I am able to do it on my phone, which I always have. I don’t need a lot of time to be able to check the news on my phone, so I can do it even when I am busy. I also get a lot of information from my friends and the people around me. Here, you are constantly with your friends and peers so if something big happens it is easy to hear it from someone. Most of the information I find out about usually comes from the Internet or people around me I would say.

  1. I completely agree with you when you say "since being at school...I get my news more often from the Internet." At home the TV always seemed to be on a news channel, and I always read the local newspaper with breakfast. It's interesting to see how being in a different environment has changed our methods of gathering news.

  2. I agree with you and Hannah! I got my news the same way at home. I feel the same way too about my parents being a source of information. It's cool that you still read newspapers online even though you're not getting the physical copy. I use my phone to check the news too!
